Initially, the producers and the lead actor Aamir Khan wanted to release the film on Christmas of 2012,[3] but the plan was scrapped in favor of an early release date in 2013, mainly due to a forecast that a Christmas release would force a rushed post-production schedule, which was unfavorable given the high degree of technicality.[4] Casting "I am very excited for Dhoom 3 [...] specially excited because Aamir joins the series as the lead antagonist. His joining the cast completely raises the level of the franchise as he brings forth a high sense of professionalism and perfection. —Bachchan talking about Khan's casting as the antagonist[5][6] Aamir Khan was signed on to essay the lead role and the antagonist, while [Abhishek Bachchan] and [Uday Chopra] will reprise their roles as police officers. Furthermore in January due to the prior commitments of Aamir Khan with his TV show Satyamev Jayate it was pushed forward to June.
